The Ohio State University Newsroom

Denny Lynch fell in love with writing in 1970 as a college freshman at The Ohio State University. On a whim, he signed up for Journalism 101 and soon discovered the prospects of a lifelong career. The School of Journalism published a daily newspaper to test and refine the skills and disciplines taught in the classrooms. Lynch loved the excitement and grind of the newsroom, especially meeting story deadlines every day. Upon graduation, Lynch gravitated to the public relations field at a time when newspaper reporting jobs were scarce.

In 1980 he was lucky to join the corporate office of Wendy’s Restaurants, to develop a communications team. A chance meeting with Wendy’s Founder, Dave Thomas, when he needed a speechwriter, resulted in a 20-year adventure together crisscrossing the U.S. and Canada seeing Wendy’s franchisees, visiting restaurants, and meeting managers and crew. Lynch had a front row seat to witness Dave Thomas, a shy, midwestern entrepreneur, rise to a national icon as star of Wendy’s commercials.
